The question of whether or not World of Warcraft is dead is a really difficult one to answer, particularly from an objective point of view. Statistics show that even today after nearly 16 years we are seeing several hundreds of thousands of players on the game right now, which hardly indicates a dead game. Two games that will undoubtedly show up when you type your question into Google are The Elder Scrolls Online and still, even 15 years later, World of Warcraft. Games such as Guild Wars 2 and Final Fantasy XIV will likely also make appearances, but ESO and WoW are the big two. The number of people with a World of Warcraft subscription has doubled since Classic was launched. Speaking in an investor call – as reported by Seeking Alpha – Blizzard president J. Allen Brack claimed that the company knew that 'it was important that players have a single existing subscription to support both games.' Having launched in August 2019, World of Warcraft Classic takes players. 229,040 Players Online. You are viewing the live World of Warcraft player count on PlayerCounter. World of Warcraft Classic was announced back in 2017 at BlizzCon and was highly anticipated in the years up to its release in August of 2019.
A lot of players were tired of the state of World of Warcraft and longed for the good old days of WoW.
Classic WoW gave players exactly that by reverting all the way back to a version in September of 2006 right before the Burning Crusade expansion was released.
WoW Classic was well received and upon release had hundreds of thousands of players waiting in queues to log in to the original experience.
Blizzard recently released phase 4 on March 10th which brought the Arathi Basin battleground and Zul’Gurub troll raid to the game.
Hopefully, this new content brought a spike to the WoW Classic server population stats below!
Since Blizzard stopped releasing exact player counts, we have to use third-party estimates to try and figure out the player count on WoW Classic.
Below are the player counts for WoW Classic broken up into three different regions, America, EU, and Russia. Any servers that saw less than 500 players will not be included in this list.
Overall we saw almost 450,000 players in the past two weeks across all three regions below. EU and NA are neck and neck when it comes to their server populations on WoW Classic.
WoW Classic still has a pretty healthy server population across all regions. One thing is certain though, the dead and unpopulated servers will need to be addressed in the coming months.
Merging of servers or giving people free server transfers wouldn’t be the worst way to deal with it.
We hope to see the server populations continue to grow as time goes on and more and more content gets released for WoW Classic.
Player Count Past Two Weeks (America)
Summary
US servers had over 200,000 players in the last two weeks! That’s quite a big chunk of players. However, some servers are seriously lacking in players.
A lot of people are calling for Blizzard to let them change servers. If you play on Loatheb, you might not even see another person depending on what hour you log in and where you are!
Wow Player Count 2020
Of course, there will be people in the main cities, but the zones feel dead and empty.
If you’re looking for a server with an even split of horde and alliance players and a high population, any of the servers at the top of this list would be good choices.
Are you a Horde player and want a Horde dominated server? Skeram is a good bet if that’s what you’re looking for. Alliance player and want an Alliance dominated server? Pagle is the way to go!
Player Count Past Two Weeks (Europe)
EU servers had over 200,000 players in the last two weeks as well. It seems both regions have a healthy amount of players, but just like the US, some servers are really lacking a population.
World Of Warcraft Player Count 2020
Judgement had just 663 players in the last two weeks! Averaged out over 14 days and that’s less than 50 a day.
Back in mid-January it peaked and had around 1000 players in a single week. Does this mean the server is dying? Quite possibly.
With fewer and fewer people to play with, many may move their toons to other servers or just quit playing entirely due to lost interest.
For a server with an even split of horde and alliance players and a high population Firemaw or Morgaine would be good choices.
If you’re looking for a Horde dominated server it won’t get better than Lucifron which is almost 100% Horde! Alliance players looking for something like that should move to Heartstriker.
Both servers have an average population but are not as highly populated as the servers at the top of this chart.
Player Count Past Two Weeks (Russia)
If you happen to play on Russian servers, congratulations! You’re one player out of almost 18,000! One server is neck and neck for Horde/Alliance domination, the other 3 are slightly one-sided but not terribly.

In a video game world increasingly populated by live service titles, World of Warcraft is the original. It started in 2004 and, to this day, still boasts millions of players. How many people are still hooked on WoW, though? How many people still play World of Warcraft?
Bear with us, because we're going to have to reach a little bit to give you this answer.
The last time Blizzard gave us solid numbers about the World of Warcraft player base was back in 2015. At that point in time, Blizzard reported that WoW had 5.6 million subscribers worldwide. That's a fairly healthy number! The trouble is that when you fast forward to present day, those figures are over four years old. A lot has happened since in the World of Warcraft universe, and there is no guarantee that the game still counts approximately 5.6 million people as subscribers.
Blizzard has also decided in that period of time that it's no longer going to give us subscriber numbers from WoW. So we're left to rely on third-party data sources that may or may not be accurate in their counts. The website Statista, for instance, estimates that World of Warcraft now has an estimated subscriber base of 5.03 million players. And Statista expects that number to continue trending downward over time.
So that's where we're at in terms of knowing how many people are playing WoW right now. We know that Blizzard provided a figure of 5.5 million subscribers in 2015, and we know estimates place that figure at 5.03 million now. That's still a pretty impressive number for an MMORPG that launched 15 years ago. And we think the downward movement of the subscriber count reflects the times somewhat accurately. There are a lot more MMO-type games competing for the attention of gamers these days, and with more companies focusing on those kinds of titles, we'll only see the number of live-service titles grow.
We'll try to update this space should Blizzard decide it wants to report World of Warcraft subscriber counts again.
